This was announced with regards to the Q&A on Twitter with WIRED which was released on August 18. Joe Russo claimed that viewers could catch a glimpse of Nova in the epic and ultimate battle between Thanos and Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the rest of the Marvel Comics superheroes.
The duo was replying to a tweet by a fan that read: “How do you guys not have any Nova Corp member in a fight against Thanos? Love the movie, but just boggles my mind. Didn’t even have to be Richard Rider.”
In response to this, Joe Russo light-heartedly replied saying: “Look closely at that scene again, and you will see. You will see Richard Rider in the background of the shot. Easter egg.”
Joe Russo, however, affirmed to Comic Book that actually the “reveal” was ” a joke on our part”.
In the year 2018, the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige commented on the ” immediate potential” of Rider to make reappearances in the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe due to his “connection with the Guardians Universe” and given the fact that “there is more than one example to pull from in the comic that is so interesting”.
As a matter of fact, the character was even featured in the early drafts of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” back in 2014.
As a character, Rider was born in New York and was randomly chosen by alien Rohmann Dey as a child to succeed him in the Nova Corps- which is the intergalactic police force of Xandar. He wished Rider to assume his powers and join the force. Few people in the comic have adopted the Nova name, from Rider to Sam Alexander.
