Existing 3G data users in Delhi will now get to enjoy 4G speeds at no extra cost.
According to reliable sources, the telecom major Airtel is set to start 4G trials in Delhi on 18th July. Airtel was the first to launch 4G wired broadband services in India back in 2012. Now the telecom giant is focused on expanding its 4G mobile services to major cities. Airtel launched its 4G services in Mumbai last week.
During this trial run, existing Airtel customers can opt in to upgrade their 3G sim to a 4G one if they own a 4G capable smartphone. It should be noted that the trial run will only be held in select locations in Delhi, and only after completion of the trials will all customers have 4G access. If you don’t have a 4G phone, you can also buy 4G dongles and 4G routers from the Airtel website.
Airtel is set to start its services on the 2300MHz TDD-LTE band in Delhi. The company had acquired 100 % shares of Qualcomm’s BWA last year. Airtel had successfully bid for BWA license spectrum in Kolkata, Karnataka, Punjab, and Maharashtra circles back in 2010. Currently, Airtel offers 4G services in Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Amritsar, and Haryana.
So, what are the prices?
Airtel has decided to provide 4G services for customers at the existing 3G prices. So most current 3G plans should transfer over to 4G speeds for customers who purchase a 4G SIM. Airtel offered a complimentary data pack for people who purchased 4G SIMs when it launched 4G services last week in Mumbai. The same complimentary pack is expected to be available for Delhi customers.
